Funded Dec 22, 2021The project you helped to fund has immensely helped my students. It has been so great to actually be able to do the labs that are in my science books. My sixth graders were able to use the play-doh to create different rock layers. I used the small rocks that are now stored in the bins as fossils for the sedimentary layers. The play-doh has also been used to help students calm down when they are antsy.
I was able to use the balloons in a lab in fourth grade. I blew up the balloons and then constructed a scale for students to see if air had weight to it. According to a few kids, it was the "best day ever". They especially loved it when I popped the balloons.
My fifth graders played "The Allowance Game" today. This game was a great way to practice counting money. They also had to transfer the amounts of money using different bills and coins in order for the bank to have the correct change. At one point a student said "Miss Piburn, I think this game is actually math". Overall, I am so thankful for the project being funded because I can already tell it is making students have a more meaningful learning experience.”
With gratitude,
