Brainstorming, group work, partner discussions, and movement are at the heart of my collaborative classroom. My students move around in different pairings to problem solve and create. The clipboard/whiteboards will reduce paper (important in my environmentally conscious classroom), while giving students the flexibility to quickly move to anywhere in the classroom. These whiteboards will also be used for quick but meaningful assessments of student understanding, all while giving students the flexibility to move around the room to the place where they can work successfully. An example of an informal assessment using whiteboards is to ask students to illustrate math concepts, write a vocabulary definition in their own words, or tell me one thing they learned that was interesting. The large portable easel/white board will also be a tremendous boost to our classroom collaborative opportunities. I can move this to our common area for a small group to use for illustrating their ideas, and for group problem solving. I can also use it as part of my small group instruction...it goes where I go, so I'm not tethered to the front of the room. Thank you for helping my curious kiddos become 21st century collaborative learners!
