Graphing notebooks are necessary for the everyday work in our class. We will use them for notes, classwork, and also to graph linear, quadratic and exponential relationships. With these graphing notebooks, students will be able to remain organized and review notes, past work, and feedback in one book. Last year, students kept their graphing notebooks in the classroom and it facilitated a smooth transition for learning. To engage my students with technology and math learning we will work together to find the equation of two lines graphed using the TI Calculator-Based Ranger (motion detector), one with a negative slope and one with a positive slope. In our class teams, students will be given a linear equation and asked to walk in front of the rangers in order to “graph” their line. With these TI Calculator-Based Rangers (motion detectors) students can visualize, real time, the connection between their movement and the graphical representation. This gets students up and moving and encourages peer collaboration.
