  • Headphones to Help Us Excel in Our Learning!

    Funded Aug 22, 2021

Thank you so much for helping fund my project for headphones for the third graders at Jenkins Elementary School. The students are so happy to have their own headphones to use while using technology in the classroom.

The students use the headphones when accessing websites such as Dreambox (the math site we use as a district), Smarty Antz (the reading website for the district), reading on Epic!, and researching on PebbleGo. They are also able to use them when working on independent work on Canvas (our Learning Management System).

When I asked the students what was the best part of having their own headphones most of them said they loved being able to use their chromebooks without being distracted by someone else's sound. They also told me that it was great to have headphones that they don't have to share with other people.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Petersen

  • Virtual Learning Can Be Exciting!

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

My students love their dry erase markers and the sleeves! They use the sleeves to keep their math templates together as well as using it for a personal dry erase board. They were so excited to see that they each received 2 markers and the sleeve. The size is great for completing those multistep story problems and drawing the tape diagrams. They also use them for word study during small group reading. The fact that they can easily erase and it is easy for me to see has been a game changer for all of us!

The Time magazine has given them something new to read that they can hold in their hands and keep for their own. We are working on nonfiction text so it works well with our curriculum. I love that articles are current events that they are hearing about on television and now they can read more about those topics. One of my students saw it in her sleeve and asked if she could please read it that day. She was so excited to tell me about it. She said, "It is the most awesome thing I have ever read!"

My students will continue to benefit from the project as the year progresses. Thank you so much for helping me give them a little bit of something new while helping them be successful in the virtual classroom setting.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Petersen

  • Choose the Seat that Works Best for Your Learning!

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Thank you for funding my flexible seating project. The students were so excited to see what was in each box. As I opened up each box you could hear the excitement in their voices! We opened the boxes at our closing meeting and discussed the best way to use the materials. It was fun to hear all the ideas of how best to make sure everyone would get a chance to use the blue chairs and the bean bag chairs. The students took wonderful care of the materials and made sure that all students were able to have a chance to use the different materials.

The students use the blue chairs with the backs along with the lap desks during independent work time. Many times, during the independent work time I would glance up and see that they had made a small group with the chairs so they could work together. Along with using the blue chairs they would use the bean bag chairs during independent reading time. The students loved that they could move these chairs around the room to find the best place for them to complete their work! The students liked having dividers they could use at their desks so they could focus on their work without distractions. Some of the students would use the wobble seats along with dividers to make an area the worked best for them.

Sometimes eight and nine year-olds have the wiggles. Some struggle to get comfortable enough to focus and concentrate on their learning. Others need to work in a quiet place with no one around and may benefit by having a privacy corral around them to keep their focus on their work. Many of them like would like to sit on a comfortable chair while using a lap desk or clipboard. This project is helping bring some of these seating choices to our classroom! The comfy floor seats will allow they to work at a low table where they can still work with a friend while stretching out their legs. The wobble cushions will have rounded points that cause the student to work on their balance and strengthen their core muscles. Last but not least the bean bag chairs will give the students a place to sit back and relax while reading a favorite book. All of these items will give my students a choice in where they sit while helping them engage and stay focused in order to continue making progress in their learning. Please consider helping my students to have seating in our class that will make our room a comfortable and inviting place to learn!
