My students come from an area of high poverty. The average income in the area is $18,000, so parents have to choose purchasing needs, such as food and shelter, over purchasing educational items such as books. If we have Kindle Fires in the classroom, many books can be purchased that will give students access to genres they are not often exposed too. My students are struggling learners that have a hard time focusing on reading material. Having it delivered in a new, fun way will inspire them to be more diligent about completing their reading assignments.
