Scope magazines offer content that is current and engaging. These magazines and their supporting materials can be leveled for different reading levels and made more accessible for my EL students. This past year I bought a subscription of ten magazines and used them for center work in my general education classroom. I like to work on one of the articles per week that relate to something else we are learning or focusing on at the time. Scholastic offers resources that allow teachers to pull out the standards and create activities around those standards. I like to make a different center out of each standards-based activity allowing students to fully engage with each other and the material. I also use the magazines to reinforce skills during the times I work one on one with my EL students.
