My gifted students have vivid imaginations. They think outside of boxes and see things that the general population cannot. I am their teacher and I focus on intellectual units rather than academics. Academics come easy to them. I want to stretch their minds.
One way is to provide the opportunities to travel to the Swiss Alps watching a girl and her grandfather or to the county side of England during World War II, only to continue to a fascinating land called "Narnia." Books create pictures in my students' eyes that help them aspire to see new places for themselves. This sparks interest in careers that will afford them that opportunity.
I want each of my students to reach their full potential and widen their horizons. I think a classroom containing children's classic literature, that our tiny campus library does not have, is a substantial leap in that direction.
