  • Wearable Jewelry with Lego

    Funded Mar 27, 2025

Wow! I am absolutely thrilled and grateful. Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting my Jewelry class with purchasing Lego products to turn into Jewelry. In sharing our future plans with my two groups of students, they were filled with so much excitement. We worried that this project may not be fully funded in time for the quarter, but you made this happen! Thank you so much for supporting this project. I am so happy to share this great news with my students today. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Byun

  • Functional Ceramics with Underglaze Transfers!

    Funded Mar 25, 2025

Thank you so much for making this possible! We are absolutely thrilled this project is fully funded. My students are more than ready to begin making ceramic cheese boards and decorating using the underglaze transfer sheets. I shared with my students what Underglaze Transfers look like and how they can be used with clay. We are so excited and cannot wait for these materials to arrive!”

  • Steal Like an Artist!

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

Steal Like an Artist is an amazing book by Austin Kleon. Students in my art classes are all about learning how to think and work like an artist by implementing the Studio Habits of Mind. This book helps students to have a clear idea of how it is to think and work like an artist in the studio with helpful guidelines on "The 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative."

I like to take time with my students to listen to Austin Kleon read the book for us using the audiobook, as each student has their book to hold and read together. This allows the class to be on the same page. Also, as we complete 2-3 chapters(takes less than 20-25 minutes), students take pictures of their favorite pages that they want to keep in their visual journals and later create a visual journal using these pages as their reference.

Thank you so much for helping us purchase a class set of this book. I shared with my friends and colleagues about how we were able to make this possible with DonorsChoose and our giving community, and everyone was amazed. This book will be used in all of my studio art classes. My students and I thank you so much for making this possible.”

  • Frida Kahlo Inspired Floral Headbands with Silk Flowers!

    Funded Apr 20, 2024

The Cordless Dremel HSGP-01 4V USB Rechargeable Hot Glue Pens you helped us purchase were a big hit! Thank you so much for your support! I have one wall plug in the classroom accessible to my students, so there is an inconvenience for students in using the hot glue gun because they will need to be shared.

With the cordless hot glue guns, I can station one glue gun at each table for students to use. We will need to have these shared however, it is so much more efficient. My students used silk flowers arranged, and the hot glue guns were used to secure those arrangements in place. The project itself was very fun, but it's even more exciting that we have cordless glue guns we can use for our future projects as well! Thank you so much for allowing us to purchase these great additions to our jewelry classroom.”

  • Tools for Jewelry

    Funded Jan 24, 2024

Thank you so much for helping my Jewelry class purchase the wire cutters. With your support, my students were able to each have a wire cutter and work without interruptions! Waiting on turns to use scissors can be tiring, but imagine having to wait turns to cut wires when these are used very frequently when making jewelry.

We learned how to work with copper wires and made jump ring chains using the wires. The additional tools helped students to place sets of tools on their work trays. Students were very focused on making various sizes of jump rings. To create their chain, students used multiple-sized rods and tubes to add variety to their jump rings. We ended up having to spend more time because students wanted to complete their work in making a wearable chain using these jumping!

Thank you so much for gifting the jewelry tool to my class. The necklaces turned out to be very creative and fun!”

  • Learning the Seven Basic Stitches in Embroidery

    Funded Dec 3, 2023

Last year in 23-24, the student in my Jewelry class learned how to sew. Your donation helped us purchase embroidery floss, extra needles, and necklace cords to turn their hand-sewn project into wearable jewelry. My students were so excited to have these materials, but students were very thankful that they were able to receive an extra needle coming from this donation package. So, thank you for making this happen!

While there are so many basic stitch patterns, the class worked to master the seven basic stitches including the straight stitch, running stitch, satin stitch, back stitch, the French knot, detached chain, and the woven wheel stitch. After practicing the stitches, we then drew designs and stitched them inside 1-inch circles. These 1-inch circles were later cut out and glued onto a mini hoop. After the mini embroidery hoop was fully assembled, the necklace cords were added to make a necklace. Some students were very skilled and moved on to making more than one necklace!”

  • Learn Color Theory with Liquid Watercolor!

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

Thank you so much for helping my class get sets of aqua brushes! These brushes helped us gain understanding in how liquid watercolor differs with general watercolor cakes. In learning the color theory, the class started with mixing the primary colors to create secondary and tertiary colors as well, ultimately adding colors and details into the inked drawings of their dream car.

Working with watercolor always had been a challenge especially where students had to constantly get up to get clean water for their paint. Because the brush handles were a tube that held water inside, students did not need to make frequent trips to the sink nor get distracted in the middle of their work! These brushes are a must for class setting. Thank you for letting us have them!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Byun
