  • For Those Who Do...Independent Work

    Funded Sep 6, 2019

The students are loving the Lenovo tablets you guys funded for them. The tablets are being used by all students. They are currently using the tablets to learn frequently used sight words and they are loving it. The app reads the word as many times as they need and then has the student repeat. This is really helping the student develop their reading skills.

The students are also using the tablet for research purposes. They google search images when they do not know what a certain word means. Seeing the photos right in front of them really helps them comprehend what is being read at the moment.

Finally, at the end of the day if a student gets all his/her points, tablet time is a possible choice. On the tablet they are able to used Youtube Kids to watch their favorite episode of their favorite Tv shows or play a game.

Thank you again so much for these students.”

  • We are More Effective in Color!

    Funded Aug 25, 2019

The students are loving the color printer!

It is at their disposal , whenever they are having a perfect day they can choose to print out a colored page of one of their favorite characters, sport teams or super heroes.

The colored printer has also help some of the students with Autism by having colored icons in their picture schedule. The color is eye catching to them and they love know what is next in their day and some are non verbal and seeing their icons in color really excites them.

The colored printer is also helping the super print out super creative work done on web based applications. They are thrilled to have it in their classroom”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nelson

Being in a life skills class is always fun and educational but, it's even better when assignments and schedules are in color. By donating to this project, you are giving my students an HP color printer, that will allow me to print out social stories and eyecatching labels that captivate their attention. One of the main goals of a life skills unit is to teach our students, with intellectual disabilities, autism, etc, vocational skills that they can carry with them their entire lives. Having social stories in color as well as labels and schedules in our class helps our students identify what is expected and in turn, they are more efficient, independent, and successful. If we help our students become independent, we have gotten closer to one of our main goals, and I feel that this color printer is one step closer to get them there. For example, our classroom schedule is currently printed in black & white, and our students seem to ignore it and forget when it's time for gym or reinforcement time, etc. The schedule is posted in the front of the classroom, but the students seem to look passed it. My hope is to have the color printer, so I can make a colorful and captivating schedule with social icons, in order for our students to understand what subject we are on or what activity is next.
