There are many ways to motivate students to learn. However, most students become disconnected with the classroom when they realize that it is a space that they are not comfortable in. My project is to provide my students with different ways to engage with lessons in order to become better at the skills sets that will prepare them for brighter futures. Flexible seating is relatively new to my particular school site, but it it is a way to help students fall in love with the classroom and learning once again. Students need to find a way to engage in learning, and flexible seating is able to assist students with this. Students become more engaged when they realize that the classroom is an environment not only for learning, but to really engage and apply their newfound skills to real life. They can connect with the material, and therefore continue to become successful in multiple subjects throughout the school area. Most students find language arts one of the most difficult subjects to be successful at. They not only have to master reading, but writing, use of grammar, punctuation, multiple rules of the English Language and many other things. While reading or writing an essay, it is easier to accomplish these things when we are given options of where we are able to sit and learn instead of simply sitting in a regular chair and a regular desk. I believe that flexible seating can help my students really engage in reading and writing and truly gain fundamental skills that will help in the long run. No longer will they simply come to class and learn, but they will come to class, ready to engage with the material, the lesson, and they will be happier to participate more.
