Comfortable Sitting Chairs
Funded Nov 30, 2021Receiving the chairs for my office was fantastic. My students were happy and mesmerized by the chairs. My office space looked welcoming, modern, and comfortable, and my students also adored the space and were always excited to join his counseling sessions. This project has uplifted my students' spirit and interest in counseling by being in a space just for them with comfort and elegance. I still remember my students' smiles when they saw the chairs for the first time; not only were they happy, but their eyes looked full of joy and happiness for having comfortable chairs to sit on.”

Funded Sep 16, 2020Most people will refer to 2020 as a long year and filled with many negative experiences, and indeed it was. Despite these sentiments, 2020 was the year to be more vulnerable, more mindful about spreading kindness and compassion, and being more intentional about treating others. Since March 2020, at my school, we have been remote, and it has brought us lots of challenges for our students to learn. One of the biggest challenges for me was to engage my students with social-emotional learning in the virtual world. It was easy for the students to walk up to my office, see them at the recess and lunch area, and go to their classroom to teach SEL lessons. The schedule virtually is packed enough, and many parents/caregivers expressed several concerns about the number of hours their children spend online. Indeed, I experienced challenges to do the work I am supposed to do and continue being the best school counselor I can be. With that in mind, this is how Thinking of You With Words and Tools came alive, and thank you for your support in making it possible.
My students are using the items by finding grateful and mindful moments throughout the day to nurture hope and the idea that things will get better. While my students are currently attending classes virtually, I sent them receiving a handwritten card home that would make them feel noticed, cared for, and appreciated. The impact has been tremendous. The sand timer, paired with a mindfulness activity, provides the students with opportunities to take deep breaths to practice self-care and self-compassion and release on the electronic devices' fatigue. Students have shared that they used their bracelets as a reminder that even when things are different and challenging, they continue hoping and keeping a growth mindset to support perseverance and overcome obstacles. These tools motivate students by connecting to me and receiving the reassurance they are loved and cared for.
Thank you so much for all the generous donations! I will continue sending handwritten notes to my students. I called these care packages, and the smiles and appreciation for these when the students received them are priceless. For me, spreading kindness has been one of the most successful things I have done during the pandemic, and that I enjoy doing it to support others at these difficult times. Thank you again for my project and for helping others in the wellness journey as we transition to better days ahead!”
