At the beginning of the year, so many procedures are being introduced. The students love STEM activities and these products will allow me to have mini STEM lessons. In my lessons, I create the atmosphere of no right or wrong when exploring learning. We do several group projects together and I introduce the scientific method. I start with plants and the students use a journal to complete the experiment. My STEM projects are limited due to class size, but we often do basic projects together and complete a basic worksheet of what worked and the method of construction. The students also can explain what they would do differently. Introducing these products as a group and exploring them together will reinforce what the students will be doing independently. The children will have time to explore these same items independently during free time at inside recess. The students will need to work with a partner to complete the activity. This will allow social interaction as well as problem solving. These STEM products will provide the much needed rigor to my basic inside recess center activities. This will encourage all aspects of independent learning that is often wasted during this time. As well as, reinforce our methods discussed in our whole group setting. Kids need to keep their hands and minds working constructively. Problem solving together without an adult would be a dream!
