  • Math Center Fun

    Funded Sep 21, 2019

Thank you so much for the Math Fun center donations! The class math center looks organized with the bins, and the students are independent when they go to the math center to pick their center. The math bingo games and the data graphs instant center are some of my students' favorite games to play during our math center time. Students get the game from the math center and set it up at the small group table. In the beginning, students played with the data graph center when they were learning about graphs. This really helped them understand how to read and interpret graphs. They had so much fun making their own graphs too! They were so involved in the study of graphs that they started making graphs for fun during their lunch and recess time!

The next math units brought a new challenge: multiplication. This was the first time they were multiplying and they were very eager to do this grown up operation. Playing multiplication bingo has made a huge impact on their learning and self confidence as mathematicians. Some students have memorized their multiplication facts and others use many strategies to figure out the answer when they play multiplication bingo. The students are now playing by themselves, and they take turns being the bingo caller and the players. It's so wonderful to see them taking turns without me having to tell them to switch!

They have taken ownership of the math center games. They show responsibility and make sure all the pieces are put away neatly. We will be starting division soon , and the students can't wait to use the division bingo game during our math time. We will be able to have 4 centers going soon during our Friday math review day where students work at the graphing, multiplication, division and problem solving center. Fraction bingo will be the next math center to be introduced once we start learning about fractions.

Thank you once again for your donation. You have helped me create an incentive for my students to do their math work !”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Flores

  • Smart Charts

    Funded Dec 5, 2019

Thank you so much for your donation! With your help, my students are going to do some amazing work. Your donation will provide my students with the visual aids they need to help them visualize their learning. The charts are going to be an extra teacher in the room so that students have something to reference when they need a reminder or help. My holiday wish came true thanks to you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Flores

To differentiate instruction, much work is done in small groups. Using the small group table offers students a set place to focus on working with the teacher in a group of four to five students. The stools will provide the students with the seating they need to help them be comfortable and pay attention during small group instruction. We will work on guided reading, guided writing, and guided math in a small group without interrupting the rest of the students who are at their desks or on the floor on the floor seats completing their work. The stools will serve as a flexible seating option during whole group instruction. These motion stools will allow students to move without interrupting other students and provide them the freedom to move while listening to the lesson. Whole group instruction can be overwhelming for some students and they cannot sit still surrounded by 30 students in the meeting area. The floor chairs and stools will provide students the structured seating they need to help them focus and be comfortable while they participate in partner talk and group discussions throughout the learning day.
