  • Help My Reading Students Purchase an iPad for Small Group

    Funded Oct 11, 2023

Thank you for donating the iPad. The students could not believe that we received one through your donations and were extremely eager to use it right away. I use the iPad in the classroom in different ways. For example, I use it in small group when teaching, for group projects for them to create PowerPoints, as a camera for them to take pictures of activities at school, and finally as an incentive.

The iPad helps my students learn because they are familiar with it and love to use technology that is up to date and "cool". It has been a real motivator in small group because they love to work together and use the touch screen. It has also allowed me to download apps that are student friendly and educational to practice skills we learn in class.

The iPad has also been a real game changer for our Steam Science projects because they create videos and small clips of their steam process.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Servello

  • Fun Way to Share Our Work!

    Funded Oct 11, 2023

Thank you for the dry erase board. My students were super excited when they saw the board. They are enjoying using the dry erase board to share their work with their friends in small group. I use it daily when teaching math and reading and it has been very helpful for me because I get more student involvement. During recess time my students love to use it to practice math problems or they pretend to be the teacher and practice their spelling words by playing Hangman with the weekly words.

The headphones have made such a difference in class especially when I have students working on different activities in their laptops. There are less interruptions while doing computer work and students can better focus on what they are working on without distractions or noises from other laptops. The students are also very grateful for the headphones because sometimes they forget theirs or they break and they now have a spare set to use.”

  • Read And Write With Me!

    Funded Oct 16, 2019

First, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the very thoughtful donation of the Document Reader to my 1st grader class. It has really been very useful and impactful for my little learners. The Document Reader has been a very useful tool because I can model lots of worksheets for my kids. The ones that are visual learners have benefited the most, because they can now see what I'm teaching and follow along. Also, there have been times when the internet at school has not been working or my computer has broken and I have been able to place the book in the reader and teach my lesson just like I would off the internet accessible books in our teacher portal.

The most exciting part for my students is the visual access they have to the same teaching material I am working with. For example, sometimes I use it to write lab materials for a science project in their journals. So I put my Science journal on the document reader and they can write at the same time I am writing. I have also used it to check quizzes with them and show them where they have made their error.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Servello

My students will benefit from a document reader because they need a lot of modeling when I am teaching a lesson. Sometimes I don't have enough dry erase board to model what we are learning. Since most of my students are not native English speakers, they require lots of visuals in order to understand a lesson. For example, when doing a science worksheet together, I'll be able to point out difficult words in a passage without having to go one by one to help them look for the words. In Math, I'll be able to show them step by step when solving a problem.
