I have seen students become more frustrated since Covid when trying to learn. One concept that is really hard for students to learn is how atoms bond to form molecules. Atoms and molecules can't be seen. Students get easily frustrated and check out when they have to try to imagine them. I believe by having these magnetic molecule-making kits students will be able to create with their hands the molecules we talk about in class. We will be able to use them for our chemistry section when we learn how molecules rearrange to form different molecules (chemical changes) and the law of conservation of matter. They will also come in handy when we teach about photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Again the students will see how the molecules rearrange and form different molecules during those processes (reactants and products). I am hoping this will help with their frustration and gain a greater understanding while working together as a team.
