The power of music is real! Our school embraces at-risk students because we believe that all students are capable of success. Staff at my school work hard to connect to these students and to let their voices be heard! One way that we connect so well with students is by showing an interest in what they are interested in - including hip hop culture! What better way to hear about the experiences of at-risk youth than in a recording studio?! A proper studio would allow our nine clinicians to embrace hip hop therapy. Our music department would do more of what our students want - mixing lyrical expression with digital music and production. Our English teachers would encourage recording and sharing spoken word. And our career development department would encourage the development of skills in digital music production and distribution. Acoustic panels would allow our 12' x 15' multi-use space to become a legitimate recording studio. Better sound quality will provide the finishing touch to compliment the studio equipment that was donated from other community resources. We want to hear our students' stories loud and clear! Please help us show them that all voices matter!
