The general music classroom at Sierra Verde STEAM Academy serves between 600 and 700 students over the course of a six day class rotation. Kindergarten students through 8th grade gather in this classroom to learn to sing, play classroom instruments, as well as keyboards and ukulele. Students in grades K - 4 learn to read pitch and rhythm through singing and by using various classroom instruments, including Orff instruments, Boomwhackers, and rhythm instruments. In addition, four choirs including 3-8th rehearse and experience the collective energy that can only happen in a group dynamic of this sort. 5th - 8th choose ukulele classes or keyboard classes learn to apply the pitch and rhythm elements they learned as primary students to instrumental playing. This diversity of class offerings provides our students with opportunities to express themselves musically in ways that are challenging and personally satisfying.
