I am using a music program called Quaver where I can access over 400 different songs. Many of these interactive songs use instruments like ukulele, recorder, Boomwhackers, or barred instruments. We do not have recorders. The recorder songs show students how to read the music, what the recorder fingerings are as they play the song, and also shows students how to correctly play the recorder. I will be using recorders with 4th grade students. Each student will get to keep their recorder after 5th grade. I also have the option to print music for my students so they can take their recorder home to practice. Students will spend part of their time in class learning and refining their recorder skills. This is especially important for the 4th graders who will be moving to band instruments in 5th grade. By learning recorders in 4th grade, students will be provided with a skill set that will smooth their transition and enhance their experience playing band and orchestral instruments. By donating to this project, you are providing a student with a chance to learn something that will benefit them for the rest of their lives, whether they choose to pursue music or not. Students will have a pitched instrument to use every class. They will be able to play and create their own songs. Concerts will utilize the instruments for all to enjoy. By playing the recorders, students will be motivated to play a band instrument, and will have a chance to enrich their lives with music.
