As a Special Education Teacher, I work with students of all abilities. Students come to school from a variety of backgrounds but all have one thing in common- the ability to learn. Sometimes, anxiety and frustration get the best of them. When this happens, a Brain Break is needed so out to the hallway we go. We jump over pretend obstacles, hop like a frog or on one foot like a flamingo. Studies show that a series of movements like these help the student to regain focus and attention so they can get back to learning. A permanent Sensory Path created with Cricut Maker would be ideal. We can design and build a Sensory Path with the right equipment and materials. The Path would be laid out on the hallway floor in a pattern that invites participation. Picture a colorful path of different shapes and sizes that cues the student to hop onto a lily pad or jump over logs or do the crab walk. All these movements help the child to regulate their senses and refocus so they can get back to learning.
