I am so excited to begin my teaching journey this school year! As a first year teacher, I have to build my classroom library from the ground up. This begins with setting the stage to build a community of readers. I can do this by giving my students a comfortable place where they can go and read comfortably, listen to read- alouds and a safe place to learn about themselves and their peers. Classroom libraries also support literacy instruction and give students the opportunity to engage in lessons and peers. This project consists of a rug, bookshelves, tools for reading engagement, and most importantly diverse books. I want to help my students feel more accepted in the classroom and world. I want them to be proud of who they are and to have empathy towards others who are different from them. "Diverse readers redefine who and what we can be."
