  • Can We Just Talk?

    Funded Nov 5, 2022

Thank you for investing in our scholars! Your support translates volumes in ensuring that we have relevant resources necessary to foster personal and academic growth in our school community! With your contribution we are able to provide a comfortable environment that recognizes the importance of sensory management. We sincerely appreciate you!”

  • Girls Run the World!

    Funded Dec 17, 2020

Your support in these times is extremely valuable to our community. This team is going to be the first in our school’s history and having the supplies that you’ve funded speaks volumes to what they can accomplish with the global community perspective. We are extremely excited to get our running program up and running (pun intended). Thank you so much for your support; our hearts are extremely full.”

  • It Takes a Village!

    Funded Sep 25, 2019

My scholars have truly benefitted from the supplies you have provided through your generous donations. The first project in which the students were able to use the supplies was a friendly vocabulary competition in which students were given a definition & used the whiteboards to write the vocabulary words. The students loved having the opportunity to then earn extra points by using the word in a sentence or drawing a picture. Additionally, the clipboards provided have given ample opportunities for students to create a flexible seating environment.

It was truly awesome to see the students' reactions to boxes of supplies being brought to the classroom. They were all extremely eager to unpack & store our supplies for future use.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Avery

  • Involve to Evolve

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

Our scholars have dove headfirst into the texts that you've graciously provided. There are complex issues of social justice, racial disparities, & the complications in American history that we have discussed in both small & whole group settings. This has benefitted our classroom dual-fold because scholars are now beginning to question their values & socialization. Additionally, I am now able to design & implement a curriculum that supports social-emotional growth while also emphasizing the importance of exercising personal agency. Teaching from selected texts has been extremely empowering because I'm able to provide exposure to a narrative that is commonly overlooked. The awareness that our scholars now exhibit has been extremely impacted by exploring perspectives of Caesar Chavez, Zora Neale Hurston, Toni Morrison, & other prominent figures.

Reading has transformed my classroom. Scholars have altered the learning environment into a pseudo-reading lounge; they can be seen stretched across desks, kneeling over shelves, & the like completely entranced by their reading. It's such a joy that scholars have the opportunity for a lively discussion during our weekly book clubs & "Author's Tea" in which scholars engage in dialogue regarding recurring themes & issues present across texts.

I am so incredibly thankful to have had your support in enhancing the learning environment of our scholars. We deeply appreciate your support!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Avery

Imagine being asked to learn new concepts that you cannot access on a personal level. Imagine not seeing people that have similar experiences/characteristics reflected in your literature, media, and curriculum. Now imagine being asked to analyze texts that have no cultural relevance to your lived experiences. Unfortunately, this is not a distant fear that can be blinked away by good intentions; this is the plight of many scholars of color! Help me pursue equity by addressing the disparities in our educational system by providing quality resources necessary for academic success to our scholars deserving equitable tools to foster academic liberation. The selected texts serve to catalyze the formation of, feed and challenge the academic palate of scholars. Various representations of the spectrum of human experience will engage skills to enhance literacy and deep connections to diverse figures. It's also key to notice that the works emphasize themes of social justice, emotional intelligence, political consciousness, being a global citizen, learning continuously, and an array of others. Representation matters.
