If funded my project will help my students (especially the girls) keep their hair off the carpet. By using the yoga mats, it will give the students their own private space that will allow them the freedom to participate in the exercises.
Each child will clean their own mat to prepare it for the next student who uses it, which teaches the self-less act of kindness to others. Without the yoga mats it has been very difficult to teach the students how to relax and be still because they are constantly adjusting their body position to keep their hair styles from messing up (hair is a very important issue for girls, especially African American girls).
