  • SEL Library & Resources

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Thank you so much for donating towards this project! Our cozy corner has been remodeled and students are enjoying using it throughout the day when needed. Students understand that they can go to the cozy corner on their own when they are feeling frustrated, upset, angry or any big emotion. They love looking into the mirrors and playing with the spot plush characters. We have read several of The Little Spot books so far and the class enjoys them. They really help students understand different emotions and how to regulate them. I have attached some photos of our read alouds. Happy holidays and thank you again!”

  • Center Time is Necessary!

    Funded Aug 31, 2022

Once again, I would like to truly thank you for donating to my classroom project. We have now been in school for 4 months and my Kindergarteners really enjoy when we have center time at the end of the day.

Every week or two I introduce 2-3 new activities and they are so excited each time. We use the wipe and write sheets for roll and write to practice letter formation, laminating sheets to make themed activities and they love the I can make sentences box!

Thank you so much and happy holidays!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vasquez

  • Diverse Library

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Once again, I would like to start by thanking you for your donations towards this project and my classroom library. Due to the pandemic, I am currently teaching a fully remote class of 30 - 3rd graders so these books have been used to create a home library! They look amazing and are helping to fill up my bookshelf.

Reading aloud is the foundation for literacy development. It is the single most important activity for reading success (Bredekamp, Copple, & Neuman, 2000). So far this year I have read a few of these stories with my students on Zoom. They absolutely love read alouds! Two of the books highlighted in my photos are "Say Something" and "The Greedy Triangle". We used "Say Something" to discuss their voice in the world and theme. We used "The Greedy Triangle" to introduce different shapes in geometry. Following the read aloud, students participated in a shapes scavenger hunt. I asked students to find different objects in their house that represented the shape given. It was a lot of fun!

I look forward to reading more of these books because it is a fun way to keep my students engaged remotely. Thank you and happy holidays!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vasquez

  • Math Creators

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

First off, thank you very much for these donations! My students were extremely excited when they saw all of the materials arrive. They love using the white boards to show their work in math class.

So far, we have used the white boards to show work during math lessons. They whiteboards are also used as an assessment tool. A problem is presented at the end of the lesson and the students solve it on their whiteboard to help me see who is understanding and who needs additional help in the next lesson.

The chart paper is a great addition to the classroom because students and I create anchor charts to hang around the room. Coming soon, the students will be using chart paper within their groups to model problem solving and present their poster to the class.

Once again, thank you very much for your support towards this project!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vasquez

  • Making Math FUN!

    Funded Aug 7, 2019

Once again, thank you so much for your generous donation towards my classroom and this project! The first day of this school year was on September 6, 2019. All of the items from this project were delivered to my school on September 9, 2019. You would not believe the excitement and joy that opening those boxes brought to my students. One of the students stated, "Wow those are all for us, I love 5th Grade!"

We recently used the Place Value Folder Games as a way to further explore decimals and whole numbers. Students compared numbers in different games by organizing them from least to greatest or greatest to least, matched cards based on rounding and explored what would happen to a number if it is multiplied by 10 or divided by 10. The students were so eager to play the games and it was a great way for me to assess their understanding of what we learned throughout the chapter on decimals.

Students do love hands-on learning and using these manipulatives. We can't wait to use all of the fraction blocks when we begin that unit.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vasquez

This is the first year that my school is departmentalizing. I will be the 5th grade math and science teacher. This project will provide my students with a variety of resources to enhance their mathematical skills. Math can be difficult for many students, but by using these hands-on manipulatives, they can succeed! I want to help my students understand the concepts behind the mathematics, not just remember a formula or one way to solve. Many students are taught one way to solve a problem and if it doesn't work for them, they struggle to succeed. I want to show students that many math problems can be solved in a variety of ways, such as equations, diagrams, tables and charts. They will be encouraged to explore the problem to find the solution that works best for them.
