Flexible Seating Options & the Power of Student Choice!

Thank you so much for your contribution to our first classroom project! The entire project was funded, meaning my students received 6 wobble cushions, 6 square squishy cushions, our classroom rug, and the two red, cozy chairs. AND we received it all before the first day, which was awesome! I wish you could have seen my students' faces when they realized they got to use these items on a daily basis!

The option for choice has truly made reading a more enjoyable activity in the classroom. Students are excited to pick their seating and "get all cozy". I have some students who will read more than double their usual amount if their able to use their favorite flexible seating option. It's wonderful!

Additionally, the rug helped set the tone for our morning community circles. We have talked about everything from our biggest dreams, to our favorite activities, and even our goals for the school year. On days that we don't have a community circle, my students are bummed out and eager to earn it back the next day. The ability for students to share their voice and experiences within the classroom really impacts our classroom culture in a positive way.
