My class is respectfully requesting to #Filleveryshelf in my Art room with Art specific books such as Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Dot, Beautiful Oops!, Too Much Glue, Ish, just to name a few. Although our school library has books for students to check out, I would like to have Art specific books to foster the young artists that rotate through my room each day.
Every child needs to find a place they fit, or a special niche they belong in to find their own individual passion at school. For me, that passion was Art. I want to fill our shelves with inspirational and relevant Art books for students of all ages. I know Art is fun, creative, and a way for many students to express themselves, but for some students Art is a passion that they feel they cannot live without, and it inspires them and hooks them all the way through school.
Some students might struggle in reading or math, they excel in Art and they are fantastic and the best at something and this will give them what they need to try harder in other subjects simply because they know that at some point they will come to my room and discover a world that offers them opportunities to build and create and design something that they are proud of.
Books about Art will help students of all ages learn more about it, learn how they, too, can express themselves, and these books can also teach students more about Art and self expression and how we are all unique.
Georgia O'Keeffe once said, “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for.” I want to help students express themselves freely.
