Students will grapple with hard-core concepts, that have real-world connections to them. Students will read stories that they can identify with, in addition to core and supplemental text. These text will expose them to more than the traditional or classical high school literature will. Students will share ideas in a collaborative group setting and that open dialogue, and will promote change. The Socratic Seminar series will enable students to think critically and to expand their knowledge of things they know and things that they don't know. Access to these text (as a class set) for every single student to utilize, versus only some that can afford it, will be very instrumental to this project. Books will be read quarterly or by semester and then Socratic Seminars will take place as a culminating activity.
