Wiggle It, Just a Little Bit

Thank you so much for your donation to provide alternative seating to my kindergarten classroom. When all of the seating arrived, my students were ecstatic! We received the yoga balls chairs first and students were able to use them in our technology center. Each day, our students complete lessons on an assessment system called iReady, which creates a lesson plan based on ability shown from diagnostic testing. Once we received the yoga ball seats, the students who used them during technology time showed greater focus and were able to stay on task for longer periods of time.

Once the wobble chairs arrived, with the support of an additional grant from my district, I was able to provide an alternative seat for every student in my classroom. Much of our time is spent on a rug doing large group work. Prior to receiving the seating, my time spent trying to teach at the rug was filled with disruptions. Students now have a seat that allows them to move around while learning. This has greatly decreased the number of disruptions during our learning time. Sometimes, students wish to have a different color or type of seat than they origanally started with for the day and they have begun to show great communication and problem solving skills by asking to trade with another student.

We also received the privacy box. Students have been using this during our center time or during instructional time to simply take a break from the day and regroup their thoughts. They have also use the area to read a book quietly. It's great to have a space where students can go to just take some time to gather their thoughts and come back to learning.
