As a new media specialist I have a vision for the media center this year. My vision is for our media center to be an inviting, interactive, exciting place where there is something for all of our students from kindergarten to 5th grade. I plan to make this vision happen starting each morning in Media Club. Morning Media Club will be a place where kids come to read and check out books, to play checkers with a classmate, to put together a 500 piece puzzle with kids they don't know, to play Prodigy with their friends and to get their hands-on some LEGOs! Why LEGOs? Through LEGOs, kids can show their creativity and imagination. They can work together to create something new or put together a kit which requires a lot of patience and teamwork! They can look through LEGO books for ideas on things to create, meanwhile, practicing those reading skills! Maybe they will write a story about their creation? Maybe that Disney Princess Castle they are building will help teach a kindergartner their colors or shapes? Maybe that MineCraft Kit they are working on will help that 3rd grader learn their multiplication facts (yes you can really learn to multiply with LEGOs, pretty cool huh). The sky is the limit for what these kids can do!
