Task boxes and hands on activities allow students to take charge of their learning and make choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a center in the classroom where they can focus on learning standards in a fun way addressing the following standards (RF.K.2.d, RF.K.3.a, W.K.1, K.CC.A.1, K.OA.A.1) Currently my students are working with pencil and paper on various academic skills and with some manipulatives that we already had. We try to make it interesting by offering them choices but we need more hands on materials. Part of the struggle for my students is keeping the materials in manageable containers and having an organization system for materials. Making sure students have materials and task boxes is an essential component in motivating their learning. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given access to a system of learning and organization that works. During COVID, my students did not have access to hands on materials, organized space to learn, and established systems to follow and their academic skills declined. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional options to make more effective learning choices with their own personal style of learning. We have selected pre made activities and materials to create more task boxes for the students. We have also included a wagon to help students transfer their materials to our outdoor learning area with ease. These will be extremely beneficial for our students to have access to the academic standards we focus on in each of their individual educational programs. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us continue to grow.
