We will set a yoga ball on the container to make a drum. With two drum sticks in hand, our students with all abilities will be able to drum their hearts out. We will talk about rhythm, tempo, and the beat as we drum along to different songs. The students sit in a traditional classroom setting most of the week, so they will enjoy the freedom to move and drum during music time. Through drumming, we will be able to integrate math concepts. Music is filled with patterns. The musical patterns translate into math concepts that our students are tested on in their standardized testing. If we can practice these concepts weekly through drumming, I know our students will grasp them and we will improve our test scores.
