The books I have selected for my students, will encourage them to love reading and become better readers. Currently they have access to English books in these titles, but it is a challenge for the English Language Learner to become avid readers if they are not fluent in English. With the same book in Spanish, they will also get to enjoy these popular authors as their non-bilingual peers. By donating to our project, you will not only encourage students to love reading in their native language, you will ultimately help them increase their academic achievement by increasing student comprehension. The students will no longer feel left out in having access to popular literature in their native Spanish language, as opposed to the general non-bilingual student population who have an abundance of books available to them. They too will feel the excitement of having a favorite author, and being able to have literature conversations with their peers and non-bilingual students who have read the same book in English. This in turn will increase their English Language development, in processing what they read in their native language and then participating in book talks in at their level in English.
