The carpet will be used in the following ways: 1. Sit students in an organized way once they come into the classroom and have the opening to our lesson. (Everyone gets their space). Not only will it be used for the organization of students but the carpet will benefit in the learning environment of the students through many of my lessons for activities and for checking for understanding. 2.A. When doing the lesson on color, we will look at the order of the colors on the carpet. Rainbow order (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet). Missing indigo but I'll make a note on it. B. When I introduce warm and cool colors, I will have students raise their hands to check for understanding if they are sitting in a warm or cool color. C. Primary and Secondary colors, I will ask students to play a game of Simon says "stand on a primary or secondary color." D. Check for understanding by having students pointing to what 2/3 colors make a secondary or tertiary color. E. Have students divide into small groups and have them sort manipulatives by color on the carpet or place them with their complementary color. 3. Lessons on shapes, for example, name the shapes and the number of sides for lower school. For upper school, we would go into symmetry, geometry, and patterns. 4. Students will use the rug to learn/play in centers. I will have kinder and 1st use centers such as building with blocks or sorting with manipulatives.
