One of the most beneficial aspects of education is student collaboration; this allows students to learn, grow and share ideas together. I have many hands-on projects that I incorporate into my curriculum where students collaborate with each other. Another way they can learn from each other is to showcase and share their projects. The Elmo would allow them to do this through a large display they can share with the whole class. I teach Global Studies and one of our projects is to create/design their own maps. It allows creativity, higher-level thinking skills, and voice and choice. I would love to have a way for students to display/explain their projects for the whole class to see and learn from.
With an Elmo, I would also be able to display multiple types of diagrams to my students from maps from North Dakota to the local bus route. Next, I could share political cartoons on the Elmo to spark hidden meanings behind pictures and text, as current events are also a large part of my curriculum.
Furthermore, I incorporate a great deal of content area reading in my classroom and have students with various levels of reading skills. An Elmo would allow me to project written text with my class and model how to find main ideas, cause and effect, expand vocabulary, and infer text.
In conclusion, an Elmo would allow my students to use visuals, increase collaboration, critical thinking and creativity, and enhance their reading skills even further. Thank you for supporting my students and strengthening their education.
