Two, Four, Six, Eight, Math is What We Appreciate!

Your gifts are such a wonderful addition to my kindergarten classroom and I am so grateful. Since learning that my project was funded two of my colleagues made Donor's Choose grants that have also been funded, so your generosity has led to almost all of my school's kindergarten students benefiting in some way from a funded grant.

My students are so excited when they get to play Candy Land and Let's Go Fishing.

They are by far the favorite games in the classroom. Candy Land has been such a strong tool to reinforce good social skills by learning how to problem solve with their peers. They don't question the changing of the cards to meet the math standards but see it as a new way to play. We have just begun learning addition equations so I will soon make new cards with sums up to ten.

When I asked the class what they liked about Let's Go Fishing it was a unanimous, "I love it." I personally love having a fun and engaging way for them to practice learning their sight words.

As you can see from the pictures the students are using their math manipulative bags almost daily. They are saving so much prep time for me while giving them another opportunity to practice becoming responsible learners. I love watching them get excited about math, partly due to the empowerment they feel by having something of their own to use during the lessons.

The rest of the items are just beginning to be used and will be brought out as the school year continues and I'm looking forward to introducing them into our routines.”
