There is an old adage "Reading is Fundamental!" I want to create an environment that fosters joy when reading. In my classroom I'd like to create a coffeehouse for my students. Comfortable seating, book displays, and audio that coincides with our whole group texts. Many of my learners do not have opportunities to hang out in a coffee shop and read. My hope is that creating a warm, inviting, safe space for my students to engage with texts will help encourage their independent reading skills to grow and allow them to develop the stamina necessary to grapple with complex texts.
