I am a new Kindergarten teacher and teach at a school with diverse learning needs. I believe that every child has the right to play and enjoy being a kid. I want all of my students to have access to materials that will help them be successful in their learning. Children need materials to support their learning and social skills. With these materials, students will be able to explore with hands on manipulatives, games, and listening devices that will help them grow as learners. The rug, stools, and wiggle seats will help them focus on their learning and gain self-control. It is impossible for us to ask 5 years old to sit still all day. These items allow them to wiggle while still focusing on the lesson being presented. The listening center allows children to enjoy books even when I am not available to read it to them. Having books read aloud improves vocabulary and increases comprehension. The hands on-manipulatives and puzzles increases curiosity and play. Play is so important to young children. It encourages them to work with one another, build relationships, communication skills, and improve social/emotional skills.
