Students love to play with clay. Sometimes it goes well the first time, and sometimes we try again. Unfortunately, when clay is overworked or needs recycling, it must be wedged to remove air pockets and realign the clay particles. Trapped air in clay projects makes it hard to work with and can be disastrous during firing. With wedging boards, my students will be free to experiment with their clay knowing they can wedge it to refresh or reuse the clay without worry that it has trapped air inside. This freedom to take risks and be responsible for their own materials helps students grow as artists and future leaders.
