I want to teach my 2nd graders to become critical thinkers and problem solvers in many different situations. Starting at an early age is key and I would love to give my 2nd graders the opportunity to start using these skills now. I feel that by introducing some of these skills through beginning coding with the use of the Dash robots is a great way to get them engaged and excited about this type of learning. Currently they do not have easy access to these tools and that's why I'd love to bring them directly to my classroom and my kids. By bringing Dash robots into my classroom I'm hoping to not only expose my kids to the critical thinking involved with coding and computer science, but use it to help engage them in their learning in all subject areas. I feel that I could incorporate the use of the Dash robots into our learning of our math units of measurement and geometry. 2nd grade has a science unit of Force and Motion that would lend itself perfectly to the use of the robots. Students could use their writing skills to create "how to" and procedural writings on how to use the Dash robot and make it do different things. My students can also use them in our geography unit to have them follow particular directions on a map. The possibilities seem endless on how I would be able to use the Dash robots in my classroom to engage and excite my 2nd graders.
