Trauma is in the eyes of the beholder. Part of having a trauma informed classroom is being mindful of the experiences that students may consider traumatic. When students are preoccupied with emotional concerns, learning is not taking place. These materials will allow students to destress without being completely removed from the classroom. Calm corners promote self-regulation, time awareness, and incorporate senses to redirect focus. Once the student has reset, the student rejoins the group to continue learning focused and ready to take in new information. This project encourages classroom management instead of reaching out to other school personnel for initial support.
