By being an active participant in this project, you will allow students the opportunities to enrich their reading lives through literature! Have you ever picked up a book and COMPLETELY related to the main character? You see this character and you are comforted knowing that there is someone else just like you in this world! This is what I want for my students, and your donation will help do just that! Through quality, diverse literature, children learn they are not alone! Isn't that what all humans strive for? The desire to be accepted, respected, and never alone. My classroom library is the most important area in my classroom. I have invested many, many hours in making the library easily accessible. Books are arranged in many ways. This includes arrangements of books by genres, authors, subjects, and reading levels. It is a great source of pride for myself and my students. My library has been completely funded on my own. I have scoured second-hand shops, garage sales, and utilized Scholastic book clubs to create a resource the students can learn from. However, in a recent analysis of my classroom library, I found that my texts do not represent the diverse student make-up in my classroom. This is where I need your help! This project will enhance my students abilities to grow as readers! When a child is interested in his or her book, when they can make connections between the characters and their own lives, they will improve their reading fluency and comprehension skills. Preparing them for their future as lifelong learners is the ultimate goal!
