Criss-Cross Applesauce: A Classroom Rug

I wanted to thank each of you for donating to my classroom rug project! As you can see we have been busy over the last few months as we navigate through second grade! My students have been using their classroom rug during both whole group lessons as well as independent work/reading time.
The kiddos were super excited when we welcomed our brand new carpet into the classroom as a place for them to sit and work comfortably throughout the day.
The rug has been an amazing attribute to our classroom, as we learn best when we are all together in a comfortable place in the room. The carpet has created an area for the students to understand personal space and how to gather in one spot to help them better engage in lessons.
We will definitely continue to use our carpet through out the year as we continue to grow and master the second grade. Again, I can't thank you all enough for putting a smile on my students faces by giving them a comfortable place to learn!”

Think back to elementary school, sitting in the gathering area, listening to a read-aloud or engaging in a lesson. The classroom rug filling the space beneath you, allowing for both comfort and a productive area to learn. Hard-working students deserve the best learning environment we can provide. Many of my students are socioeconomically disadvantaged, but that doesn't stop them from trying their best. My students deserve a safe, comfortable, and engaging space to learn! Imagine sending 15-second graders to the gathering area, some spread out and others clustered close by. Within moments, they are moving around, squirming, and playing with that random crayon they found under a desk. "Stop it!" "You're in my spot!" "I was sitting there first!" "Stop touching me!" Eventually, the outbursts become too distracting for the rest of the class and I must stop the lesson to redirect students back to their original spots. This is a common occurrence in the classroom! Unfortunately, when I must stop lessons to redirect students on where they should be sitting, we are losing out on valuable learning time. With this classroom rug, students will have an assigned colorful square to sit in during lessons, in order to provide for a richer learning environment! This will not only allow for more organized lessons but also an inviting space to learn. This space will be a perfect area for the whole class, small group, and independent learning.
