In my classroom, I am incorporating a maker space. One aspect of this maker space is that students will be able to make videos using stop motion cameras and the appropriate software, collaboratively with their peers, about their creations either as tutorials, class projects, or just for fun! Students will create all the props, characters, and dialogue for the videos, incorporating their art skills, creativity, as well as their writing and speaking abilities. These props will be made out of materials such as LEGO bricks and community figures, modeling clay, or other arts and crafts supplies. Since students are actively creating their own materials, this gives them ownership of their learning, while also engaging the whole brain of the student. There are countless uses for these materials in a classroom, such as: project-based learning, promoting the foundations of engineering and film making, an outlet for children to express themselves, and a way for students to engage and talk with one another. This also provides crucial experiences in the classroom with technology that some students might not ever get the opportunity to have otherwise. This will also meet individual children where they are at, and scaffold their learning and love of education.
