  • Making a Matched Set!

    Funded Jun 26, 2019

Thank you so much for your amazing and generous contribution to my classroom. My students are so excited about the new Ipad and Apple Pencil. Students are enjoying learning to use this new art medium. Also, because we have a "Matched set" students are collaborating and teaching each other new tips and tricks for working with this new and exciting technology. Having the ability to draw directly on the screen of the ipad with the Apple Pencil really makes it more enjoyable for students as they learn to work with the digital medium.

The IPad and the apple pencil work together so that students can write directly on the iPad screen. However, the apple pencil is much different than a regular stylus because it is pressure sensitive and has a more exact point. This allows students to control the art being drawn on the iPad like they would with a normal piece of paper and a pencil. This is totally different then drawing on the computer with a mouse or drawing on an IPad with a round tipped stylus. The students are really enjoying the precision and control this is giving them.

There is one student in particular who in the past has been a behavior issue. With the introduction of the Ipad to the classroom resources his attitude has totally changed. The eagerness to use this new tool has kept him on his best behavior, and has encouraged him to try new techniques and mediums he would not have bothered with before. This new positive incentive has really made a change in not only his behavior but his work. He is taking time considering what he is creating and why he is making the creative choices he is making instead of slapping something down to be done with it. I can not tell you how much the change in this one student has created a more positive atmosphere in the classroom and how much I appreciate what you have done for my students and my classroom.

Thank you so much for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Olson

  • Becoming the Digital Bob Ross!

    Funded Jan 2, 2019

Thank you so much for your support of our classroom. The Ipad and the apple pencil have opened new doors for my students. While purchasing a stylus is much cheaper it does not give you the precise control that an apple pencil does and very few who are not artist realize the impact of that small detail. When I put the apple pencil and Ipad in the hands of a young artists at first they are very timid and not sure what they can do with it. After a few minutes exploring the different art programs there is an excitement that begins to take over there demeanor. When I see that change in expression I take a moment to reinforce to the student that the apple pencil is pressure sensitive almost like a real pencil and that excitement becomes extraordinary. Some of the students still prefer doing things the traditional way but there are a few who have really been taken by this new medium. There is one young man in particular who has always been less confident about his own abilities then some of my other students and when he began creating digital art with this new tool he Bloomed and matured to an entire new level. He has pride in his artwork and in his class. When the rising freshman came to visit the school he got in front of them and shared about the art room and about his art and how much he has grown as an artist. Even more amazingly this is something that he chose to do on his own no one asked him to do this. Even the other students have noticed. More than noticed actually because when it is their turn to use the IPAD and apple pencil many of the students in this young man's class give their turn up so that this one student can use it again.

In another of my classes there is a young man who finished early on a project. I asked this student if he would like to try out this new tool. (He had been hoping to take a nap) He grudgingly agreed and before very long there was that excitement and energy that he had been missing previously. Many days he comes in and works extra hard so that he has time left over to create art with the Ipad and apple pencil. His energy and participation in class has increased dramatically and while he still enjoys conversing and collaborating with the people around him. His art and that IPAD are his main focus.

Also when your generous donation funded this 1 Ipad and 1 apple pencil a parent at the school stepped up and decided that they would donate an apple pencil. So your donation is encouraging others in our immediate community to begin to reach out to support us more. I cannot thank you enough sincerely
