  • Let’s Make Learning Fun and Exciting!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you again for the wonderful new additions to our occupational therapy room! My students could not contain their excitement when we first opened up the boxes and saw all our brand new games and items! The Gumball Grab game has been a huge hit in particular! It helps promote tripod grasp (used for writing) by using tweezers to pick up small balls. Many of my students struggle with using the appropriate grasp during writing, so this is a fun way for them to improve their grasp without actually engaging in handwriting. Also it works on a variety of other skills including turn taking, following directions, paying attention and so much more!

Using these games and items we will continue to work on improving the necessary skills needed for optimal functioning in the academic environment but in a fun and exciting way!

Once again we are so grateful and appreciative of your donations!”

Firstly, I want to thank everyone of you for donating to my project! The printer that we have received has been making such a huge difference for my students and to our school! My students have been so excited to be doing new fun projects and activities every week! Since getting the printer we have been able to do tons of projects for Winter, Christmas, New Year, MLK, Chinese New Year and we have even begun working on Valentines Day Projects! The printer has also helped me print out different worksheets to address specific skills my students need to work on. Finally, I have been able to print out various tools that can help my students while they are in class so that they can be more independent. This includes, ABC charts, Writing checklists, graphic organizers and more. This printer is truly the gift that keeps on giving and has made a world of a difference for me and my students!

    Thank you again!”

  • Sensory Regulation for Attention

    Funded Nov 1, 2019

My students are having a blast using the resources and materials that you have helped me provide for them! They were so excited to open up the boxes and were even more excited to use all the new materials during our therapy sessions!

We use the tunnel and textured balance stones on a weekly basis to help work on various skills including gross motor coordination, balance, sensory processing skills, strengthening and following multi-step/sequence activities.

Shortly after receiving the materials, one of my students was experiencing a full scale meltdown/tantrum where he was yelling, throwing things, banging on walls and was extremely difficult to calm down. I showed him the body sock and after a few minutes of encouragement to try it he agreed and instantly calmed down within seconds. In this moment I was so grateful to have this item on hand and was so happy that we were able to calm this student down and help him have a better rest of day.

For my next project I would like to get more materials that can help my students with self-regulation and sensory processing so that these materials will be readily on hand for any student who may need them to get through their school day.

All of the items received are utilized on a daily/weekly basis and make a world of a difference to my therapy sessions, our school and most importantly my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rachel, Occupational Therapist

My students need a variety of supports during therapy and in the classroom setting for improved functioning throughout the day. The materials that are needed will help my students in their fine motor coordination, gross motor coordination, sensory processing and attention, which will ultimately improve my students' ability to write, focus, calm and engage fully in therapy and in the classroom environment. Some examples of how the materials will be used include the compression vests helping students who need sensory input in order to increase attention, for calming down and to help organize their brain and body. The tunnel and puzzles will be used to create obstacle courses for movement-based activities to help regulate the students. The exercise mat will be used for self-calming and sensory integration using yoga. The lined paper will help my students with handwriting. All of these materials will be greatly appreciated!
