The Book Drop: A New Twist to The Book Swap
Funded Nov 20, 2019Thanks to your generous donations, the Book Drop book vending machine is making a positive impact on children of all ages at our school. The middle school students are finding a new joy in reading, and the Pre-K students are being introduced to a love of books for the first time.
Teachers distribute tokens to students to use in the Book Drop to obtain new books. The books are given at no monetary cost to the students, and are theirs to keep for as long they want. How do they receive the tokens? Each teacher decides for their classroom, but some ideas include rewarding improvement in behavior or academics, recognizing various types of achievement, or promoting an interest in reading. The teachers who work with students with behavioral disorders have found the tokens a very successful tool in their behavior modification programs.
The Book Drop is an exciting addition to our school, and your donation helped to make that happen!”

The Book Swap: Empowering Students One Book at a Time
Funded Aug 21, 2019Words cannot express the impact your generosity will have on the children of West Virginia. For many families in the Mountain State, buying a book is a luxury they cannot afford. Because of you, students across the state will be able to know the joy of book ownership, at no cost to them.
There was an atmosphere of anticipation in the school, as The Book Drop (the name chosen for the book vending machine) was wheeled down the hallway. Students and teachers stopped to ask how much it would cost to buy a book from the machine. When I told them all they needed was a token, that no money was involved, the children couldn't wait to give The Book Drop a try. I don't think I have ever seen a group of middle school students so excited about getting a book!
Without your kind donations, The Book Drop would just be an empty box. Thank you for filling our machine with books and our students with joy.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Lohr
