My students are in grades 3-5 who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Every day they teach me something new about the way they think, learn and interact with others. They are far and away the most amazing children I have ever worked with. As a special needs educator, I am constantly thinking outside the box to find ways to engage my students in learning and provide them with the same curriculum you would find in a general education classroom. This includes teaching my students how to communicate, read, write and most importantly how to advocate for themselves and their wants and needs. Oftentimes my students will struggle to express what they want and need as well as how to cope when faced with a difficult situation. My classroom provides a safe place for learning and growing.
