Life has always been symbolized by games in works of literature. Stories such as Mansfield Park by Jane Austin and Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations contain scenes of card games, that mirror the love and war games that people play throughout. Additionally, games like Chess have been symbolic and descriptive with allusions in many famous literary pieces. For my students, games will serve as the medium in which they will come to love literature and finally be able to grasp the various skills, concepts, themes and symbols within various texts. Themes and symbols like winning and losing, life and death, secrecy and foolishness and/or strategy and randomness. Gamification without technology will serve as a multi-faceted approach that has limitless possibilities and endless potential. Our experiences during these times will last them a lifetime and even allow them a new way to look at games, in which they too can show and teach others to love too.
