This project is being put together to help expose my students to a novel that I feel is very important for them. This set of books will be used not only in my Readings for Social Studies class but in my coworkers classes as well. This book exposes real life issues in a fictional format that grabs the students attention right away. The subject matter of this book includes a story of a young boy during World War Two trying to escape Germany with his family. It also tells the story of a young girl who is trying to escape Cuba for the United States. The final story is of a young boy trying to escape Syria with his family. This covers the subject of a refugee which is very much prevalent today especially in the news. It will allow me to connect current events the students are seeing in the news in an informational way that will entice them to want to read more (which is the ultimate goal) Each novel will allow every student in the class to have a copy to dissect and follow along with as we go throughout the year. The class occurs on a rotating basis everyday which will allow for all students to be exposed to this material. (90 in total as I teach in a Middle School but 360 in total accounting for my collegues classes that I will share these novels with)
