More Than Books: A Maker Space in the Media Center
Funded Mar 25, 2022Thank you so much for your donation. My new activities came at the perfect time. Students were finishing up projects and gearing up for trimester finals, so they were excited to see the new additions. Because of my new games, puzzles, and crafts, the traffic in the library has dramatically increased as well as book check-outs. The students are realizing that the library is not just a quiet place to get books, but also a place to socialize with peers and feel like a child again. Students love showing off their completed puzzles or their fuse bead creations on their key chains and backpacks. Now I have more of a variety of crafts and activities, so students continue to visit often to check out all that is new.
Many of us forget that high-schoolers are still children. They still find joy and nostalgia when working on puzzles and crafts. Plus, it gives them a small break from the responsibilities of school, jobs, and difficult relationships. They also like to escape with a good book, and you have given them this opportunity.
Thank you again for helping make my library a little oasis for my kids and helping it become a thriving, active space.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hostetler
Escaping the Screens with Brain Breaks
Funded Feb 16, 2021Thank you so much for your donation. My new activities came at the perfect time. Students had several snow days followed by trimester finals, so they were excited to see the new additions. Because of my new games, puzzles, and crafts, the traffic in the library has dramatically increased as well as book check-outs. The students are realizing that the library is not just a quiet place to get books but also a place to socialize with peers and feel like a child again. Students love showing off their completed puzzles or their fuse bead creations on their key chains and backpacks. Today one of my students remarked that it was so cool to see so many more kids in the Media Center.

Funded Nov 23, 2020Thank you so much for your donation. My students truly felt like it was Christmas morning when they entered my library. Because of my new games, puzzles, and crafts, the traffic in the library has dramatically increased as well as my book check-outs. The students are realizing that the library is not just a quiet place to get books but also a place to socialize with peers and feel like a child again. One student told me that working on puzzles wasn't something he had done since he was in 7th grade, and it reminded him of special times with his grandmother. Another senior told me that she asked her parents for some of the crafts for Christmas. Students love showing off their fuse bead creations on their key chains and backpacks.
