  • Making of a Speed Racer

    Funded Dec 16, 2020

My younger students have really enjoyed the legos. Their imaginations have gone out of this world making all kinds of images out of the legos. Their eye -hand coordination has really improved dealing with the small pieces and learning how to stack pieces together to create objects.

They have races to create certain objects and see who can create an object with the least amount of legos or the most legos. These make for great projects on the windy West Texas days and really get the children engaged.

The speed staking cups have also helped with hand-eye coordination and are also used as counting drills, multiplication drills, addition drills, as well as staking skill. There are so many uses and we have seen improvement in handwriting, other fine motor skills, math and improved partner skills. We appreciate your donations in helping our children grow in this trying time.”

    With gratitude,

    Coach West

  • Help Your Heart Beat

    Funded Oct 7, 2019

When my students saw the pedometers they were so excited!! We took our resting pulse and talked about what was happening and then we took a thousand steps and took our pulse again. Not only did the students learn how to take their pulse, but they saw the impact activity had on their pulse.

During the course of the activity we had class challenges to see who could get the most steps in a designated time and learned which activities impacted our steps and pulse mor”

    With gratitude,

    Coach West

Pedometers will be worn by the students during class activities such as dance, basketball, soccer, jump rope, etc. then recorded in a journal so that the students can see the difference each activity makes in the beating of their heart. Students will graph resting heart beat and heart beat after activity to find which activities help their heart beat the best. Hopefully this will help them decide activities to become more involved in. Students will hopefully come away with a better understanding of which activities will be good for them to keep their heart healthy for not only over all health, but also for endurance, strength, and lung capacity.
